Carolina shot 289 (+1) in round two as it was another difficult scoring day on the back nine

AWENDAW, S.C. – South Carolina turned in a round two 289 (+1) on Monday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks sit T-5th with No. 16 ETSU at even par thru 36 holes.

No. 19 New Mexico has a two-shot lead over LSU at 16-under after posting a 14-under 274 today at Bulls Bay Golf Club. Purdue climbed six spots on the leaderboard thanks to a field-best 272 (-16).

Scoring was difficult again today on the back nine as winds picked up with some difficult pin locations.

Junior transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering paced Carolina with a 2-under 70. He got off to a hot start with three birdies and an eagle in his opening six holes. He made the turn at 4-under (33) and shot 37 (+2) coming into the clubhouse. Redshirt sophomore transfer Frankie Harris shot 72 (E) with a trio of birdies. He was bogey free on the back nine with a birdie at the par-3 12th hole.

Sophomore Zach Adams shot 73 (+1). He was bogey free on the front nine with a pair of birdies at holes one and four. Senior Rafe Reynolds was the final counting score with a 74 (+2). He was also bogey free on the front nine with a birdie at the par-3 third hole. Freshman Bo Carpenter shot 77 (+5).

Sophomore Gene Zeigler, who is playing as an individual this week and making his season debut, had a nice round with a 1-under 71. He made a trio of birdies on a bogey free front nine and got it to 4-under with a birdie at the par-4 11th hole. He made double at the difficult par-5 13th hole.

New Mexico’s Matthew Watkins has the individual lead by a shot at 7-under. He shot a field-best 66 in the second round today. Just 16 players in the 81-man field sit under par thru 36 holes.

The Gamecocks will be paired with the Bucs and West Virginia for the final round on Tuesday. Carpenter will be the first player off for Carolina at 8 a.m. on hole one. Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat.
