COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior forward Sam Muldrow tallied a career high 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds and five blocks, but South Carolina was unable to overcome a 40-23 halftime deficit, falling to Tennessee, 73-69 on Thursday night.
Sophomore forward Ramon Galloway also added 15 points for South Carolina, hitting 5-of-9 attempts, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
UT’s Tobias Harris had a career-high 25 points and teammate Scotty Hopson scored 24. Harris, a freshman, was 11 of 14 from the foul line, while Hopson scored 16 of his points in the opening half as the Vols (18-12, 8-7) opened a 20-point lead.
The Gamecocks (14-14, 5-10) cut the margin to 69-66 with 1:06 to go. But Tennessee’s Melvin Goins followed with a jumper and South Carolina could get no closer.
South Carolina concludes the regular season on Saturday at Mississippi State. The 2 p.m. ET contest will be televised on ESPN2.
