FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf “B” team sits in third place following the first 36 holes of the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Francis Marion University, at the Country Club of South Carolina (par 72, 7,062-yards) in Florence on Monday.

The Gamecocks turned in a team score of 573 and are locked in a tie with Elon and Kennesaw State. The University of South Carolina-Aiken leads the tournament with a team score of 558. Tournament host Francis Marion is 11 strokes back in second place with a team total of 569. USC-Aiken’s Scott Brown sits atop the individual leaderboard after firing 70-67=137.

Freshman Allen Koon leads the Gamecocks in a tie for ninth place after shooting 73-69=142. Redshirt freshman Patrick Cunning (71-72=143) and freshman Baker Elmore (74-69=143) are tied for 16th, and redshirt sophomore David Kite (73-73=146) and freshman Mark Silvers (73-73=146) are in a tie for 30th place.

Other than Cunning’s three rounds at the TOPY Cup in Japan, Sept. 6-8, all of South Carolina’s players are seeing their first collegiate action.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Carolina is playing the final group with USC-Aiken and Francis Marion.
