USC v. Campbell
Nov. 29, 2003
USC Coach Dave Odom post game quotes

Certainly was not one of our better offensive efforts, but I thought our defense tonight was very, very good. Not too many times will you have 12 blocked shots, 22 turnovers against, eight steals in a game. Tonight was a good night for that, and I’m very thankful from that standpoint.

Would like to play better offensively, but you could almost feel it from the beginning. Missed three or four shots in a row, really weren’t close on any of them. Just one of those nights you have to work extremely hard to get the energy level up where it needed to be.

What we did tonight was beat a team we should beat. Campbell is a team that is rebuilding. It’s going to take them a little while to do. We in the rebuilding process as well, so understand what they are going through.

Thought Carlos played well, and certainly the guy who held us together was Mike Boynton. He continues to do that. We’ve asked him to play the off guard position tonight due to Josh Gonner being out. Thought that would give us a chance to give Tre a little more experience.

Good teams do that: they beat teams they should beat.

It’s time for us to challenge ourselves in somebody else’s gym. We had kind of a pseudo away game, played SW Mo. State in state of Missouri, but not in their home gym. So this (Citadel) is really our first away game.

ON TIME OUT EARLY IN SECOND HALF: We just gave up two baskets in a row. Mike got beat on the baseline, no help there. We come right back down and shoot an open jump shot. Come on. I got a park a block from my house, that’s what they play there. I ain’t gonna sit there and watch that the rest of the night.

Rebounding not where it needs to be, but that’s something I imagine we’re going to be fighting all year.

Campbell Coach Robbie Laing post game quotes

In the mid first half, that’s where we lost control of the game. It’s hard to simulate in practice the bigger, faster, stronger and longer players that South Carolina have.

I thought we did an extremely poor job of defensive transition.

They came in off a championship and in their minds we were 0-2 and they probably didn’t give us a lot of respect. The first 10 minutes we looked like a college basketball team – but we had nothing to respond with afterwards.
