Columbia, S.C. – Playing in his first NCAA Regional, freshman Jonathan Jackson blasted one-under-par 71 to lead the team in day two of the NCAA East Regional in Roswell, Ga. In today’s action South Carolina combined for 307, placing 16th out of 27 teams. First-round leader Clemson shot a 3-over-par 291 Friday to maintain a slim one-shot lead over the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech. North Carolina (581) stands in third, followed by Florida (590) and Virginia Commonwealth (592).

Jackson fired his lowest round of his collegiate career today at the Ansley Golf Club’s Settindown Creek. After firing 81 in the first round, the Chapel Hill, N.C. native shaved ten strokes off his score to shot one-under-par 71. Jackson is currently tied for 63rd.

Freshman Alex Hamilton, tied for 37th, is first for the Gamecocks with a two-day total of 149. After shooting two rounds of 78, Matt Robinson is third on the USC squad followed by Nash Elliot and Martin Rominger. Elliot and Rominger are both tied for 99th place with a two-round score of 157.

Clemson’s D.J. Trahan who added a 70 to his Thursday 69 for a five-under-par tournament total of 139. Trahan leads the individual race by two shots over Weibring (three-under-par 141).

The final round of the East Regional begins tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. The top ten teams, along with the top two individuals, will advance the the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio on May 29- June 1.
