Todd began running competitively in the fall of her seventh grade year, joining her high school cross country team. She consistently moved up on the team year after year and ran in top spot her 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years. Todd was a member of a state championship cross country team her ninth grade year and a state runner up team her seventh, eighth, and 11th grade years. She lettered all six years she ran, was All-County and All-Region her ninth through 12th grade years, and was All-State her 11th and 12th grade years. She was also the captain of the team and MVP her 10th through 12th grade years. Todd's major breakthrough in cross country occurred at the Wendy's Invitational cross country meet in Charlotte, N.C. her 11th grade year, where she ran a personal record of 18:44.

In track, Todd lettered five times, was All-County and All-Region her ninth through 12th grade years, All-State her 10th through 12th grade years and team MVP her 11th and 12th grade years. She holds school records in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run and holds the Spartanburg county record in the 1600. Todd was state runner-up in both the 800 and the 1600 her 11th grade year and was the state champion in the 800 her 12th grade year with PRs of 2:15 for the 800 and 5:08 for the 1600.
