During high school Swink was an eight-time letter varsity athlete, competing in cross country and track. In 2008 she was a member of the state qualifying cross country team. She also ran at the state meet in 2009 and 2010 as an individual qualifier, where she ran her PR of 19:24. She was a member of the four-time regional qualifying 4x800-meter relay team and was a three-time 1,600-meter regional qualifier. Swink was named cross country team captain two years and track team captain one year. She earned multiple school awards such as Rookie of the Year, Front Runner and MVP.

She was a Scholar-Athlete four years in both cross country and track as well as a member and officer of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. While running, Swink also participated all four years in marching band and winter percussion and took dance lessons for 11 years. She graduated as Valedictorian ranked second in her class.
