Berger started running cross country her junior year of high school and discovered an enthusiasm for distance running. She ended her high school career with six varsity letters, four in track and two in cross country, and school records in the 1,600-meter run, 3,200-meter run and the 5K. During high school she was also a member of National Honor Society and was a part of various community service projects.
After completion of her senior year of high school in 2011, Berger received a NSLI-Y scholarship to study abroad for a year in Russia. She currently plans on entering the International Business program and using the knowledge she gained about the Russian culture and language at the University of South Carolina and later in a future career.
