Gamecock Volleyball Wraps Up Road Schedule At Kentucky, Tennessee
Nov. 8, 2007
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Gamecocks return to the road after a four-match home stand to take on Kentucky and Tennessee. Friday night, the Wildcats serve as hosts for a 7 p.m. match at the Memorial Coliseum, while on Sunday, the Gamecocks and Lady Vols meet at the Stokely Athletic Center for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
Kentucky has an impressive 19-8 record overall and stands second in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division standings behind Florida. Tennessee, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago, is a game in back of the Gamecocks for fourth in the East coming into the weekend.
All-Time Versus Kentucky: Kentucky holds a slight 19-17 advantage in the all-time meetings, with that margin growing to 12-6 in matches contested in Lexington. The Wildcats took the earlier meeting in Columbia, 3-1.
All-Time Versus Tennessee: The Gamecocks look to even the all-time series record against the Lady Vols this weekend, as they have a 24-25 mark against their Sunday hosts coming in. Carolina has won two straight in the series, both at home. The last time the Garnet and Black captured a win in Knoxville was in 2002.
Salters Stalking Spots on Career Best Lists: Junior middle blocker Belita Salters is working her way into the Carolina record books this season. Her 46 career solo blocks ties her for ninth all-time with Berna Dwyer. Three more solo blocks will tied Salters with Toni Venturini for eighth. Her 1.09 blocks per frame puts her seventh all-time, 0.03 in back of Lauren Ford. The Scranton, S.C., native also stands just four percentage points from putting herself on the hitting percentage charts.
