In her first year at South Carolina is Morgan Thomas, who will work as the graduate assistant for the volleyball program. She will assist with equipment, video and travel arrangements.
Thomas comes from USC Upstate, where she was a standout on the Spartan volleyball team. A 2011 team captain, she ranks in the top 10 in school history in kills and blocks. As a senior, she led the team in both kills and blocks and earned second-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors, the first Spartan to gain that accolade in the program's six years in the league.
While in school, Thomas assisted on campus in many areas, including working as a student research assistant with BrailleSC and as a marketing and promotions student intern. A four-year member of the USC Upstate Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she earned the athletic department's Leadership Award and the SAAC Leader of the Year honor. Thomas was a member of two honor societies, the Lambda Pi Eta group, a national communications honor society, and Alpha Kappa Delta, a similar group for sociology students. She also worked with the Women's Leadership Network on campus.
Thomas has served as a camp coach at various camps in the Upstate and at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She also coached with the Club South Volleyball group out of Spartanburg.
A May 2012 grad from USC Upstate, Thomas earned her bachelors in communications with an emphasis in communication studies. She minored in sociology.
