Gainesville, Fla. - Inclement weather put a damper on today's events for the Gamecocks' track and field teams at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. Rains cancelled four events for both men's and women's teams and slowed others for Friday's competition.

Track events were brought to an end on Friday after only a few heats of the women's 400m were completed. Of the 17 athletes who competed, sophomore All-American Stephanie Smith finished first with a time of 53.05. Freshman runner Faraign Giles finished with the ninth fastest time of 56.30, while the second and third fastest times were run by Ashlee Kidd (54.04), of Georgia Tech, and Cynethetheia Rooke (54.85), of Michigan State.

The remainder of the women's 400m heats, the men's 400m, both the men's and women's 200m, 800m and 400m hurdles events were cancelled and will not be rescheduled for this weekend's meet.

Saturday's events will take place as scheduled until further notice. Results will be available following the meet at www.uscsports.com.
