Gamecocks Set To Open Season With Home Tournament
Sept. 14, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina women's tennis will start the 2017-18 campaign when it hosts the South Carolina Fall Invitational this weekend, Sept. 15-17, at the Carolina Tennis Center. Carolina will play host to Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, James Madison, Liberty, North Florida, Mercer and Winthrop.

This marks the second-straight year Winthrop, North Florida, and Middle Tennessee State have competed in the Gamecocks' tournament, while Marshall, James Madison, Liberty and Mercer are new to the field.

This year's field is stacked with talent as South Carolina, Winthrop and North Florida made the 2017 NCAA Tennis Championship. The Gamecocks are plenty familiar with the Ospreys, as Carolina knocked North Florida out of the tournament last season with a 4-0 victory in Columbia.

Sophomore Mia Horvit advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship, becoming the first freshman and second Gamecock in program history to earn singles All-America honors.
