COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina women's tennis finished the 2018 season ranked third in the Carolina Region, the Intecollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Monday.

The Gamecocks (21-7, 11-2 SEC) are ranked behind No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Duke, and amassed five combined singles and doubles rankings in the Carolina Region. In singles, Hadley Berg earned a team-high No. 6 ranking, while Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Megan Davies are ranked at No. 11 and No. 20, respectively. In doubles, Berg and Paige Cline led the team at No. 9 and Gamarra Martins and Mia Horvit came in at No. 10.

In last season's regional rankings in June 2017, the Gamecocks were ranked third in the Carolina Region behind North Carolina at No. 1 and Duke at No. 2. Horvit was ranked third after earning All-American status in the NCAA Tournament Singles Championship, and Gamarra Martins was ranked fifth. The All-American doubles tandem of Berg and Cline was ranked third and the pair of Berg and Caroline Dailey checked in at No. 8 in the region.

The Carolina Region is composed of Division I women's tennis programs in North Carolina and South Carolina, including Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Furman, South Carolina, Winthrop, Davidson and East Carolina.

The Gamecocks finished the 2017-18 season ranked No. 12 nationally with a combined seven nationally-ranked singles players and doubles tandems. Three Gamecocks finished the year in the Top 125 singles rankings, while four doubles tandems were ranked in the Top 90. Seven combined final singles and doubles rankings are the most for the Gamecocks in program history. Previously, the team's highest combined total was five in the 2001-02 season and 1986-87 season.

In the Oracle/ITA national singles rankings, the now-graduated Berg earned the highest ranking at No. 34, followed by No. 68 Gamarra Martins and No. 115 Davies. In doubles, Horvit and Gamarra Martins earned the highest ranking for the Gamecocks at No. 47. Berg and Cline finished the season ranked at No. 49, followed by No. 83 Berg and Rachel Rohrabacher and No. 88 Davies and Silvia Chinellato. Horvit and Gamarra Martins finished the dual match season with a 12-3 record, while Berg and Cline wrapped the dual match season at 11-4 together.
