April 26, 2011
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Juniors Anya Morgina and Dijana Stojic from the South Carolina women's tennis team were named All-SEC selections Tuesday. Morgina earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team, becoming just the fourth Gamecock in school history to achieve first-team status. It marked the first All-SEC accolade in Morgina's career. The Russian has played the No. 1 singles position all season for Carolina and recorded a 13-8 mark there. In SEC regular-season play, Morgina tied a school record by winning eight matches on court one and finished 8-3. She posted the most wins at No. 1 singles in league play of any player in the conference. Morgina currently stands a team-best 23-13 overall in singles and is 21-13 in doubles matches. Her national rankings sit at No. 41 in singles and No. 37 in doubles. Stojic made the All-SEC Second Team for the second year in a row. Monday night, the junior received the team's MVP award at the annual Gamecock Gala. Stojic provided the clinching win in six of Carolina's 13 victories this season and in all three of the Gamecocks' 4-3 triumphs. A native of Croatia, Stojic went 7-3 in SEC matches playing at No. 2 singles and was 15-6 in all dual matches at the position, a team-high for wins. Stojic was named SEC Player of the Week once during the spring and has been ranked as high as No. 58 in singles and No. 34 in doubles.
