Women's Tennis Moves Up To No. 10 In Latest Polls

March 13, 2018

Oracle / ITA National Rankings

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The South Carolina women's tennis team (12-3, 4-0 SEC) moved up one spot to a season-high No. 10 in the latest national rankings from Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, it was announced Tuesday.

The Top 10 ranking is the first for the Gamecocks since they were ranked at No. 10 on April 5, 2016. In that season, the Gamecocks peaked at No. 8 in the polls before finishing the year at No. 13.

The Gamecocks, who received 48.02 average points in this week's poll, have won seven straight matches and are 4-2 against ranked opponents this season with wins over No. 11 Texas, No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 35 Texas A&M and No. 36 LSU.

South Carolina is coming off a successful weekend of SEC matches at the Carolina Tennis Center, defeating No. 35 Texas A&M in a 4-0 sweep and No. 36 LSU, 4-1. The team has captured the doubles point in its past seven matches and has yet to lose a doubles match in four SEC meetings. The Gamecocks have amassed seven sweeps this season over Oklahoma, Clemson, North Florida, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, No. 7 Ole Miss and No. 35 Texas A&M.

South Carolina is one of 11 SEC schools to be ranked in the Oracle/ITA Top 50. At No. 2 and No. 8 respectively, Vanderbilt and Georgia are the only SEC schools ranked higher than the Gamecocks in this week's poll.

The Gamecocks will be back in action on the road this weekend, traveling to No. 30 Tennessee on Friday and No. 8 Georgia on Sunday.
