ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Adriana Pereira and Ximena Siles Luna from the South Carolina women's tennis team won the Silver Doubles flight at the New Mexico Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Linda Estes Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
Pereira and Siles Luna picked up an 8-2 victory in their first match versus Hine and Malysheva of Texas Tech in the semis before defeating Eggleston and Sablina from New Mexico by a 9-7 score in the championship match. The UNM Fall Invite marked the first time Pereira and Siles Luna have played doubles together in their careers.
Siles Luna also registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over Texas Tech's Kendall Warren in the semis of the Black Singles draw to reach the finals where she will play Eggleston on Sunday. Siles Luna leads the Gamecocks in singles victories this fall with an 11-2 record.
Dominika Kanakova also reached the finals of her draw, the Silver Singles. Her scheduled opponent for Saturday, Anna Kuuttila of New Mexico, withdrew from the tournament with an injury and Kanakova will now take on Natasha Smith from Utah in the championship match.
Kanakova also advanced to the finals of the Cherry Doubles flight Saturday with Jaklin Alawi thanks to an 8-2 win over Hine and Malysheva of Texas Tech. The Gamecock duo lost 9-8 to Bekerova and Miles from Utah in the finals. Kanakova and Alawi have been South Carolina's most productive doubles tandem this fall with a 9-5 record.
South Carolina will wrap up play in the New Mexico Fall Invitational on Sunday. It will also mark the final competition of the fall for the Gamecocks.
