Schofield, Zubori Top Nation's No. 2 Doubles Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- South Carolina women's tennis players Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori teamed up to defeat the nation's No. 2-ranked doubles team of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem of Clemson on Saturday by an 8-6 score at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. Schofield and Zubori knocked off the No. 10 team Friday to advance to the championship match of flight one.
In other doubles action, Miljana Jocic and Megan McGavock upended Betts/Tomory of Furman 8-1 to finish in third place in flight three. Suzanna Mansour and Natasa Vuckovic lost 9-8(5) to Tennessee's Meredith/Vogel in the fifth-place contest of flight two.
Schofield dropped a tough three-set match to No. 21 Mijacika 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the semifinals of flight one, while Zubori advanced in three 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 versus Caitlin Whoriskey from Tennessee in flight two. McGavock also won a 6-0, 6-1 decision over North Carolina's Linzee Mabrey in flight six to advance to the consolation final.
Vuckovic, Mansour and Jocic all fell in the semis of their respective singles flights. Vuckovic went down 6-4, 6-4 to Laurianne Henry of Clemson in flight three, Mansour lost 6-4, 6-2 to Furman's Monica Arguello in flight four and Jocic suffered her first loss of the fall in flight five to Alex Jurewitz from North Carolina by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
