Gamecocks Complete Second Day at UVa Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The South Carolina women's tennis team completed its second day of competition at the UVa Invitational on Saturday at Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va. Ana Marija Zubori won easily for the second day in a row, defeating Lindsey Hardenbergh from Virginia 6-3, 6-3. Natasa Vuckovic also recorded her second victory in as many days with a 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 triumph over No. 106-ranked Amanda Rales of UVa. Vuckovic fought off seven match points in the second set before snagging the win. Freshman Ashley Miller also improved to 2-0, beating Irina Demetyeva from Old Dominion 6-3, 6-4. UVa's Emily Fraser upended Gira Schofield 6-2, 6-2, while Neela Vaez defeated Suzanna Mansour 6-2, 6-1. Also posting wins for the Cavaliers were Claire Bartlett and No. 68 Jennifer Stevens. Bartlett was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Miljana Jocic and Stevens won 6-4, 6-3 against Jelena Rajic. The Gamecocks lost three doubles matches to Virginia. Rales and Stevens beat Schofield and Vuckovic 8-2, Fraser and Vaez upended Jocic and Zubori 9-7, and Bartlett and Hardenbergh topped Mansour and Miller 8-3. Carolina continues play in the UVa Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center at 9 a.m. Sunday. Singles Matches Doubles Matches
