Gamecocks Go 12-0 on Day One at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE -- The South Carolina women's tennis team opened its fall season with a perfect 12-0 record on day one of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The Gamecocks registered eight victories in singles and four in doubles playing Kansas State, Western Michigan and Marquette.
In singles, the Gamecocks' No. 30-ranked Anya Morgina captured a three-set victory over No. 35 Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State 7-6, 2-6, (10-7). No. 68 Dijana Stojic also needed three sets to defeat Ana Gomez Aleman from KSU 3-6, 6-0, (10-7). Jaklin Alawi, a transfer from Long Beach State, cruised past Petra Chuda 6-1, 6-1, and No. 96 Katerina Popova won 6-1, 6-2 against Carmen Borau Ramos. Rounding out the wins over Kansas State were Dominika Kanakova downing Marketa Tousilova 6-3, 6-1 and Adriana Pereira winning 6-1, 6-1 versus Sarah Snodgrass.
Josefin Andersson and Dina Guzairova took on Western Michigan for their matches. Andersson scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Miloslava Shustova and Guzairova beat Caroline Aleck 6-4, 6-3. Guzairova also played Aleck in doubles with Pereira as her partner and the duo won 8-3.
The Gamecocks' other doubles matches came versus Marquette. Morgina and Alawi won 8-2 against the tandem of Hush and Pimienta, while Stojic and Kanakova were 8-5 winners over Fischer and Diaz. Andersson and Popova upended Dawson and Radan 8-4 as well.
Play in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic continues Saturday with South Carolina taking on Western Michigan in doubles at 10 a.m. ET and Marquette in singles at noon ET.
