June 11, 2012
by Koby Padgett COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina senior centerfielder Lauren Lackey earned a spot on the 2012 Easton Fastpitch NCAA Division I All-America second team, Easton Sports, Inc., released today. Lackey, the seventh Gamecock in history to hit .400 in a single season, becomes South Carolina's first All-American in softball since 1999, when Kim Pietro landed on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) first team and Megan Matthews gained a third-team spot. The senior from Lake Elsinore, Calif., also went 11-for-11 in the stolen-base department, the eighth 1.000 stolen-base percentage for a Gamecock when stealing 10 or more bases in a year. A first-team All-SEC selection, Lackey earned second-team NFCA All-South Region accolades earlier this spring. She led the 2012 South Carolina team in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, triples and stolen bases.
