Gamecocks Shutout Ole Miss 2-0

Oxford, Miss. - A two-run home run by pinch hitter Kristin Hall in the fifth inning provided the South Carolina Gamecocks (26-25-1, 9-15) a 2-0 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels (26-25, 6-17) Sunday and won the series 2-1. Aleca Johnson pitched seven complete innings and gave up three hits en route to her second shutout of the season.
The Gamecocks recorded six hits off of M.J. Callahan (11-12). Jessica Josker went 2-for-3.
In the fifth inning, the Gamecocks had two outs before Margaret Person kept the inning alive with an infield single to short. Then Hall came in to pinch hit and on a 1-0 count, lobbed the ball over the centerfield fence for her first home run of the season, the fifth of her career, and the Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead in the game.
Johnson retired the Rebels in order in the sixth inning and in the seventh, Brooke Turner led off with a bunt single but Johnson and the Gamecock defense was able to retire the next three batters and clinched the win.
