COLUMBIA, S.C. - The 21st-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks recorded their second SEC East series win as they defeated the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs 2-0 in game three Wednesday afternoon. McKenna Hughes hit a solo home run and Kristin Hall hit an RBI-single to give the Gamecocks the win. Pitcher Stacey Johnson improved to 13-4 and won her fourth straight appearance.

Katie Griffith took the loss for Georgia and fell to 14-4. Griffith struck out five and walked three batters in six innings pitched. The Gamecocks are now 21-13 and 10-11 in the SEC while the Bulldogs fall to 36-9 and 13-5 in the conference. Johnson held UGA to three hits, all singles, and allowed one walk.

USC scored its two runs in the fourth inning when Hughes led off with a solo shot, her third career long ball, and Hall singled to drive home Samantha Jennings from second, who reached on a walk. That would be enough offense for USC as solid defense kept the Bulldogs at bay. A double play turned by Chrissy Schoonmaker and a diving catch by Hall in the seventh inning sealed the deal for USC.

Hughes has scored in four of USC's last six games, all are games that the Gamecocks have won.

The Gamecocks return to action this weekend when they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to face the Florida Gators in a three-game series. Since snapping a six-game losing streak, the Gamecocks are 4-2.
