COLUMBIA, S.C.
– South Carolina women’s soccer standout Lindsey Lane has been named a United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar All-American, the coaching organization announced Thursday. The accolade marks the first academic All-America laurel for the senior midfielder.

Lane, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region First Team on Wednesday, becomes the seventh player in program history to collect Scholar All-America honors from the coaching organization. She joins Blakely Mattern (2006-09), Sabrina D’Angelo (2011-14), Chelsea Drennan (2013-16) and Kaleigh Kurtz (2014) on the list of student-athletes to be named to the First Team.

The fourth-year holding midfielder wrapped up her time with the Gamecocks with career totals of 29 points, 10 goals and nine assists. She totaled career highs in points (10) and assists (4) as a senior and netted three goals in 2017. Lane started all 23 matches for Carolina this fall, helping the team finish in the top-10 (9th) nationally in goals against average for the second-straight year.

Carolina advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight three times during her career, and it made the program’s first Women’s College Cup appearance this season. Lane was an integral part of this year’s senior class that amassed 65 career wins, the most ever in a four-year stretch in school history.

The academic standout, who earned her bachelor’s degree in visual communications earlier this year, will receive her master's degree in graphic design next spring. The three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection boasts a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
