COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina senior defender Ellen Fahey was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after leading South Carolina to wins against Alabama and No. 22 Auburn last week, the conference office announced Monday. In addition, sophomore Danielle Au was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for her three-goal weekend.

It is the second honor of the season for Fahey, who earlier this year was named to the Our Game Magazine Team of the Week. She is the first Gamecock to earn SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors since Christine Watts earned the honor on Oct. 4, 2010.

Fahey captained the Gamecock defense to a big weekend that saw the team earn their first six-point weekend of the SEC season. Fahey registered her first two points of the season in addition to spearheading a backline that limited the oppositions opportunities. Both of her assists were on South Carolina's game-winning goals against Alabama and Auburn. Against Alabama, Fahey assisted on Au's 19th minute goal with a header to the scorer. Fahey then assisted on Gabrielle Gilbert's game-winning goal against nationally-ranked Auburn with a header off a corner kick to the scorer. Carolina's starting center back, Fahey led a defense that limited Alabama to only three shots on goal and kept Auburn - the league's No. 2 ranked offense - to just eight shots on goal.

Au had a big weekend for the Gamecock to keep South Carolina in the thick of the SEC title hunt. Au scored two goals in the opening 18 minutes against Alabama before scoring the final goal against No. 22 Auburn to lead South Carolina to their first six-point weekend in SEC play this season. Au scored the game-winner against the Crimson Tide for her first goals in eight matches as Carolina's attacking midfielder. It was the first multi-goal game of her career. She then bounced back to score the clinching goal against the Tigers for South Carolina's second win against a ranked opponent this season. The three-goal weekend was the best for Au in her career.

South Carolina hits the road this weekend with a trip to the Magnolia State to jump-start a three-match road swing. The Gamecocks will take on Mississippi State Friday and Ole Miss Sunday to continue competition against the SEC West.
