USC Women's Soccer Heads To Furman For Tuesday Night Match
Sept. 23, 2002
Columbia, S.C. - Fresh off a 1-0 win at N.C. State, the South Carolina women's soccer team (6-2) travels Tuesday evening to Furman for a 7 p.m. match. This marks USC's third consecutive match on the road and ninth contest vs. a non-conference opponent.
"This will be a real good test for our team," said USC head coach Shelley Smith. "Furman will be ready to get us back on the field this year after we beat them last season and we need to step it up and be ready to play a full 90 minutes."
Carolina remained in the regional rankings this week from the NSCAA, moving up to eighth on Monday. Senior Jess Julin continues to excel at the midfield position for Carolina, scoring two goals and one assist in wins over N.C. State and Charleston Southern. Also continuing solid play for USC is junior goalkeeper Elise Matthews, who owns a 0.55 goals against average heading into Tuesday night's match. Matthews has allowed just three goals this season and earned her first shutout at N.C. State
