Gamecock Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 To Vanderbilt

Nashville, Tenn. - Finishing up a weekend road trip, the South Carolina women's soccer team was defeated on Sunday afternoon, 2-0 at Vanderbilt. The loss drops Carolina to 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Junior goalkeeper Elise Matthews had six saves for USC. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for USC.
"Vanderbilt came out and capitalized on some unlucky mishaps and took advantage of the chances they had," said USC head coach Shelley Smith.
The Commodores opened the scoring of the match at 27:21 when Erin Higgins scored a rebound off a save from Matthews to give Vanderbilt a 1-0 lead. The second goal of the match came at 59:22 as Michelle Bruntlett's shot found the far corner. Vanderbilt finished the match outshooting Carolina 18-10. Carolina senior forward Morgan McIntyre had three shots for USC with sophomore forward Ashley Williams adding two shots.
Carolina returns home on October 11 at 7 p.m. with a match vs. Arkansas. The Gamecocks conclude the weekend hosting LSU on October 13 at 1 p.m. Friday evening's match with the Lady Backs will be broadcast on USCSPORTS.COM.
