DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Former South Carolina All-American Katie Burnett earned Category 17 status for the 2013 LPGA season on Sunday as she finished tied for 24th in the final stage of LPGA Qualifying School at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Burnett posted rounds of 72-72-76-67-71=358 (-2) during the five-day tournament to become one of 28 golfers that secured partial membership. She came up just shy of earning full membership, finishing one stroke out of the top 20.
"All of the Gamecocks were behind Katie Burnett this weekend," South Carolina head coach Kalen Harris said. "We are really proud of what Katie has done. This doesn't come as a surprise to us. She did nothing but break records here as a Gamecock. We wish her well and wish her nothing but success."
Burnett, who was one of 76 golfers to advance to the final stage of qualifying school, wrapped up her Gamecock career last May as one of the best to ever wear the Garnet and Black. She earned second team All-America honors from both Golfweek and the National Golf Coaches Association after recording a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, which is the best finish ever by a Gamecock at the event. She left South Carolina as the program's career leader in scoring with an average of 74.18.
