South Carolina Climbs A Pair Of National Polls
Nov. 2, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Following its second-straight top-five finish, South Carolina women’s golf improved its position in a pair of national polls this week. The Gamecocks closed the fall listed at No. 6 by Golfweek and earned the No. 7 spot in the latest Golfstat rankings.

Carolina grabbed fourth-place honors at the Landfall Tradition this past weekend after the 54-hole event was cut short one round due to inclement weather. The Gamecocks posted a 36-hole mark of 577 (+1), while senior standout Ainhoa Olarra placed fifth individually at 4-under 140.

Olarra, who ranks 24th in NCAA Division I in stroke average, led Carolina to a record showing at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 13-15). The Gamecocks recorded the lowest three-round total (846, -18) in program history at the event en route to third-place honors. Olarra shot the second-best 54-hole mark (205, -11) in school history to finish as the individual runner-up, while Carolina sophomore Lois Kaye Go tied for 11th with a three-day score of 210 (-6).

The Gamecocks opened their fall season with sixth-place showings at the Mason Rudolph Championship (Sept. 15-17) and ANNIKA Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3). The team’s 853 (-11) at the Mason Rudolph Championship marked the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history.

Carolina opens its spring season in February. The Gamecocks will release their spring slate at the conclusion of the fall semester.
