Burnett Misses Cut at U.S. Women's Open
July 6, 2012
KOHLER, Wis. -- Recent South Carolina graduate Katie Burnett posted a second-round 78 (+6) on Friday in the U.S. Women's Open at the Blackwolf Run Championship Course.
Burnett's two-day total of 150 (+6) was one stroke shy of making the cut for the final two rounds as she finished tied for 66th. Despite not making it to the weekend, she has had a solid debut as a professional. She claimed a 10-stroke victory last week at the Michigan PGA Women's Open at Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville, Mich., before shooting an opening-round 72 (E) Thursday at the U.S. Open.
A native of Brunswick, Ga., Burnett wrapped up her Gamecock career this season as the program's career scoring leader with an average of 74.18. She earned second team All-America honors from both Golfweek and the National Golf Coaches Association this season.
Former Gamecock All-American Kristy McPherson fired a 1-under 71 on Friday to move up the leaderboard into a tie for 29th with a score of 146 (+2).
Third-round play begins on Saturday with live scoring at USGA.org. The final two rounds will be broadcast from 3-6 p.m. on NBC.
