Gamecocks' Strang Named to Swedish National Team
June 3, 2010
South Carolina freshman golfer Amanda Strang was one of six players named to Sweden's Amateur Ladies National Team, the Swedish Golf Federation announced earlier this week.
Strang, a native of Jonstorp, Sweden, will join four collegiate players and another of Sweden's top amateurs for the European Ladies Team Championship, which takes place July 6-10 at La Manga Club in Cartagena, Spain. Others participating on the team include NCAA Champion Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State, Jacqueline Hedwall of LSU, Camilla Lennarth of Alabama, Nathalie Mansson of Tennessee and a non-collegiate player, Louise Larsson.
Strang played in all 12 tournaments for the Gamecocks as a freshman, finishing fourth on the team with a 75.73 scoring average. Her performance ranked as the third-best freshman season in Carolina history, just behind teammates Katie Burnett and Benedicte Toumpsin. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team for her efforts.
The top amateur women's players from 17 countries will be represented at the European Ladies Team Championship. Strang previously competed on the Swedish National Girls' Team as a junior, helping her team to the gold medal at the European Girls Team Championship in 2008 and fifth place in 2009.
