COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina was named the women's National Team of the Week by Golfweek on Monday, two days after the Gamecocks captured the NCAA East Regional championship, the first regional title in school history.

Led by sophomore Katie Burnett, the Gamecocks beat Tennessee by two shots to win the East Regional at Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C., on Saturday. Burnett was the tournament medalist at 210 (-6), one shot ahead of Auburn's Carlie Yadloczky.

The win marked the first tournament victory for the Gamecock women's golf program since the 2005 ACC/SEC Challenge. It was also the initial head coaching victory for Kalen Anderson, now in her third year at South Carolina.

The Gamecocks will next compete in the NCAA Championship, which runs May 18-21 in Wilmington, N.C.
