Gamecocks Beat No. 3 Duke, Fall to ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Corrine Carr and Katie Burnett tied for fourth place in the 17-player field, leading South Carolina to a second-place finish in a tri-match with Duke and East Carolina on Saturday at Ironwood Country Club. The Gamecocks shot 588 (+12) in the 36-hole outing to finish three strokes behind the Pirates and six ahead of the third-ranked Blue Devils. Burnett and Carr posted totals of 145 (+1) to tie for fourth place. Carr had her second straight sub-par round in the morning with a 71, then followed up with a 74. Burnett went 72-73 on the day to mark her sixth time in 10 events to be one of the Gamecocks' top finishers. Freshman Amanda Strang tied for sixth place with rounds of 76-72=148 (+4), and Taylor Barrett shot 76-74-150 (+6) to finish in eighth place. East Carolina's Amber Littman was the day's medalist, shooting 71-68=139 (-5) to finish three shots clear of Duke's Kim Donovan, who went 72-70=142 (-2). ECU's Abby Bools was third at even-par 144, followed by Burnett and Carr. The Gamecocks will now await Monday's announcement on the pairings for NCAA Regionals, which run May 6-8. The East Regional, the most likely site for South Carolina will be held at Ironwood Country Club, the site of today's match. SOUTH CAROLINA RESULTS
