Blythewood, S.C. - After one round of the Lady Gamecock Classic at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C., Wake Forest leads the 15-team field with an eight-over-par score of 296. The Duke Blue Devils are four stokes back in second place, followed by Texas with 301. South Carolina and Auburn are currently tied for fourth after shooting 302. The teams battled the cooler weather and rainy conditions today on a 5,996 yard, 72-par course.

Senior Kacy Thompson birdied the 18th hole to post even-par and tie for first place with Duke's Leigh Anne Hardin and Alena Sharp from New Mexico State. Kacy shot two-over-par on the front nine, but rebounded on the back to finish the round with a score of 72.

"I made some really good putts today," commented Kacy Thompson. "I still feel like I could shoot better. The conditions were pretty good. It wasn't as wet as I thought it would be out here."

Five players are tied for fourth, including Gamecock Kory Thompson. Kacy's sister Kory, playing as an individual, finished with a fourth place score of 73. In the process, Kory posted three birdies on her back nine. Gamecock Adrienne Gautreaux tied for 15th after firing three-over-par 75.

Tied for 21st is Tiffany Catafygiouti, who shot 76 in the first round of play. Kristi McPherson and Marci Robinson are tied for 37th with a score of 79.

"We played some good team golf today; everyone seemed to contribute," stated Head Coach Kristi Coggins. "I feel confident, as a team, that we're in position to win. Our goal coming in is to be in contention everyday and I feel that is where we are at right now. I think we left a lot of shots on the golf course today. We will certainly show up tomorrow hungry."

Round two of the Lady Gamecock Classic will be a shotgun start on Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. Start times have been changed due to inclement weather predicted for tomorrow.
