On March 29, 2014, the South Carolina equestrian team became the Gamecocks’ first team (in any sport) to win back-to-back SEC Championships. The Gamecocks beat Georgia in a 10-10 tiebreaker (4,040.25-4,036.75) at One Wood Farm in Blythewood. Junior Katherine Schmidt (equitation over fences) was named to the SEC All-Championship Team for the second year in a row, and senior Johnna Letchworth (horsemanship) and junior Alexa Anthony (equitation on the flat) were both named Most Outstanding Performers in the title meet. University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides was on-hand to help present the SEC Championship trophy to the Gamecocks.

On March 30, 2013, the Gamecock equestrian team defeated Auburn to win the inaugural SEC Equestrian Championship. Held at the Auburn University Horse Center, the Gamecocks upset No. 2 Auburn, 10-8, to win the Southeastern Conference’s first ever equestrian championship. It also marked the first SEC Championship won under athletics director Ray Tanner, who was in his first year leading South Carolina’s athletics department. The Gamecocks’ hunt seat team beat Auburn, 6-4, while the western team held the Tigers to a 4-4 tie. Senior Kimberly McCormack (equitation over fences) and sophomore Katherine Schmidt (equitation on the flat) were both named to the SEC All-Championship Team, and freshman Sally Henry (equitation on the flat) was named Most Outstanding Performer during the championship meet.
