COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major has announced the signing of Savanna Southard (Moncks Corner, S.C./Berkeley) to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2012-2013 season. Southard will be competing with South Carolina's Western team.


Southard trains with Kory and Angie Merrill, and has competed at a variety of levels. Among her many accomplishments, Southard has regularly placed in the top-5 in a variety of futurities across the country. Some of her other highlights include:


2010-2011

 - SCQHA 5x Circuit Champion



2009-2010

 - SCQHA 9x Circuit Champion
- SCQHA 4 year-end high-point awards



2008-2009

- Florida Gold Coast Circuit Champion
- AQHA World Show Qualifier



2007-2008
 
- SCQHA 8 year-end High Point awards
 - AQHA Justin Rookie Award - AQHA Region 10 High Point All-Around
- SC State 4-H High Point Western Horse


A senior at Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, Southard has been editor for the school's newspaper, yearbook editor, cheerleader, and a 4-H member. She is also a member of the SCQHA and was treasurer of the SCQHYA. Southard plans to major in Education while at South Carolina.
