Columbia, S.C. -
The Gamecocks pinned well in both the Western and Hunt Seat competitions at Berry College in Rome, Ga. this weekend. Carolina was the reserve champion for both the Western and Hunt Seat teams at the two-day International Horse Show Association (IHSA) event.
"The USC equestrian team brought home the blue this weekend and showed well at Berry College," said assistant coach Joe Humphrey.
A combined effort from all the open, intermediate, and novice riders allowed the Gamecocks to amass enough points to clinch the win. Senior Lindsey Wilson added to the score by pinning first in both her intermediate equation and jumping classes on Saturday. The Paoli, Pa. native accumulated the most points in the hunter ring for the day winning the title High Point Rider.
"Consistent riding and positive attitudes contributed to overall success of the team this weekend," said Wilson.
The western team had an equally competitive and successful weekend. Junior Kerrie Reeves took fourth-, third-, and first- place ribbons in her open and reining classes for the Gamecocks. Reeves was named Reserve High Point Rider as she recorded the second highest overall score of the western riders.
"Everyone rode their best, and all of the hard work and dedication from both the team and the coaches has been rewarding," said freshman Sarah Lowe.
The Gamecocks next meet will be against the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Ala. on Oct. 25.
