Staley Inks Top-10 Recruit Jatarie White

Nov. 15, 2013

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Jatarie White (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. White will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2014-15 academic year.

"Jatarie White - wow, what a great get for our program," Staley said. "She's 6-foot-4 and gives us more and more height in the frontcourt. She is incredibly skilled. She can shoot from the outside. She can put it on the floor. She has great footwork on the block. She takes up a lot of room on the defensive end. I'm really happy we've added Jatarie to the fold, and we look for her to make an immediate impact on our basketball program."

Ranked seventh in the nation overall and the top center in the country, the 6-foot-4 White averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals as a junior. The Sporting News Preseason All-American has been part of the last three of Providence Day's four straight state championships. White is a three-time all-state selection who captured Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year honors in 2013, following former and future teammate Tiffany Mitchell's award in 2012. White earned a spot on the 2011 USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team, helping the team to a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championships averaging 9.8 points and 6.8 rebounds at the event.

White joins Doniyah Cliney (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz) and Kaydra Duckett (Columbia, S.C./Dreher), who signed earlier this week, in Staley's 2014 class.
