Oct. 10, 2012
COLUMBIA, S.C. - As part of its multi-year deal with Gamecock IMG College, Fox Sports has announced four University of South Carolina women's basketball non-conference games will air on its networks this season. The addition of the non-conference games expands the Gamecocks' television appearances to nine for the 2012-13 season, including three SEC games also on various Fox Sports networks.
The Gamecocks' NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 rematch with Stanford on Wed., Dec. 19, highlights the non-conference television schedule. It will be the fourth matchup between South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley and her former Olympic coach Tara VanDerveer since Staley took over the program in 2008-09. This season's game is the second half of a doubleheader with the men's team, and both games will air on Fox Sports South and Fox Sports Carolinas.
A pair of match-ups with in-state foes are a key component of the SportSouth slate. The network will air three non-conference games, beginning with Savannah State on Thu., Nov. 15. South Carolina's archrival Clemson comes to Colonial Life Arena on Sun., Nov. 18, for what will be the 10th anniversary of the game that opened the facility. That contest on Nov. 22, 2002, drew a Gamecock women's basketball record 17,712 fans and resulted in a 72-58 South Carolina victory. SportSouth will also air the Sun., Dec. 9 game against Furman.
South Carolina began practice for the 2012-13 season on October 1, and will make its season debut in an exhibition against Anderson College on Sun., Nov. 4, at 3 p.m.
