Aug. 3, 2012
South Carolina women's basketball alumnae were back in action at the 2012 London Olympics Friday with Iva Sliskovic's Croatia team posting a 75-56 win over Angola. Ilona Burgrova and the Czech Republic dropped a 61-88 decision to the United States. Both players will finish group play on Sunday.
Sliskovic pulled in four rebounds and scored two points in just nine minutes on the court for Croatia. Her team led by six after the first quarter and stretched its advantage to nine by halftime. Croatia kept Angola at by in the second half to cruise to its first win at the Olympic Games.
Burgrova snagged a pair of offensive rebounds and hit two free throws in the first quarter as the Czech Republic led the U.S. 26-24 after the first 10 minutes of play. The Americans clamped down in the next two periods, however, outscoring their opponent 24-12 in the second quarter and 22-9 in the third. Foul trouble limited Burgrova to just nine minutes on the court, during which she added four points and three rebounds - all offensive.
In the final day of group play on Sunday, Burgrova and the Czech Republic will take on Angola at 6:15 a.m. (ET) with Sliskovic and Croatia matching up with Turkey at 3 p.m. (ET).
