Four Gamecocks to Compete at Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. - Four South Carolina tennis individuals travel to Atlanta, Ga., to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday. The Gamecocks will compete in both the singles and doubles competition, featuring seven schools including two Southeastern Conference opponents.

The competition will consist of two 16-draw singles brackets and two eight-draw doubles brackets. All brackets will begin Friday and singles will continue on Saturday. Finals for doubles and singles will take place Sunday.

The Gamecocks will get started with doubles competition on Friday morning. South Carolina has two duos competing doubles: Thomas Brown/Yancy Dennis and Wood Benton/Thomas Mayronne. Benton and Mayronne are seeded second in their doubles bracket and will face Sebastian Acuna and Jack MacFarlane from Georgia State. Dennis and Brown will also face a Georgia State duo in Andrei Andrukhou and Quentin Couland. Both doubles matches will begin at 10 a.m.

Gamecocks represent two of the top three seeds in the Old Gold Singles bracket at the competition. Dennis is seeded second and will face Michael Kay from Georgia Tech in the first round of the competition. Mayronne is seeded third and will take on Jack MacFarlane from Georgia State. Benton will also compete in the Old Gold Singles bracket, facing Matthew Lord form Virginia in the first round. All first-round matches in the bracket will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Brown will be the lone representative of the Gamecocks in the White Singles. He will start the competition in a 3 p.m. match against Ryan Smith from Tennessee.

Paul Jubb will also represent the Gamecocks at the Niceville ITF Futures in Niceville, Fla. Jubb will start the competition in the qualifying bracket, competing his first match against Jake Douglas.
