TULSA, Okla. - Junior Yancy Dennis and sophomore Paul Jubb opened play in the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships Saturday with Jubb picking up a win in the opening round of pre-qualifying.

Jubb started the competition against Jan Paileres of Memphis, claiming a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory to move on to the second round. Facing Jacob Brumm from California, Jubb again pushed his match to three sets, but fell 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

After a bye in the first round of pre-qualifying, Dennis took on Eddie Stocia of Wichita State. The Gamecock junior was unable to move through to the third round of competition after falling 6-3, 6-2 to Stocia.

Gamecocks will continue to compete in the ITA All-American Championships this week, with Thomas Mayronne and Francisco Cerundolo set for play in the qualifying rounds on Oct. 2, looking to fill one of 16 qualifying spots in the event’s main draw.
