Gamecocks Set To Compete In ITA All-American Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. - After two third-place finishes in the first weekend of the fall season, South Carolina men’s tennis will be back on the courts this weekend at the ITA All-Americans and the South Carolina Collegiate Invitational. Five Gamecocks will travel to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships, which will begin on Sat., Sept. 30 and continue through Oct. 9. Two South Carolina student-athletes will travel to Belton, S.C., to compete in the South Carolina Collegiate Invitational, which begins Fri., Sept. 29.

Competition at the ITA All-American Championships is split into three phases: pre-qualifiers, qualifiers and the main draw. The first Gamecocks to compete will be Paul Jubb and Yancy Dennis, who will both fight for a spot in the qualifying round by playing through pre-qualifiers, which run Sept. 30 through Oct. 1 with 16 players advancing to qualifying rounds.

Two more Gamecocks will join the competition in the qualifying round. Thomas Mayronne and Francisco Cerundolo were selected as qualifiers for the ITA All-American Championships. They will compete in the qualifying draw on Oct. 2 and 3. The top 16 from qualifying rounds will move on to the main draw.

Gabriel Friedrich was one of 48 players nationally to earn a direct spot in the main draw at the ITA All-American Championship. The ITA All-American main draw begins Oct. 5 and continues through Oct. 9.
 

 

Two Gamecocks will travel to Belton, S.C., to compete in the South Carolina Men’s Collegiate Invitational. Junior Wood Benton and freshman Thomas Brown will both play in the event, which begins Friday, Sept. 29.
