Kyle Koch Moves Into Third Round at USTA National Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - South Carolina incoming freshman Kyle Koch reached the third round of the USTA Boys 18 National Championships with a decisive, straight-set victory in his debut on Saturday. He will look to continue his run in the event on Monday against the tournament's No. 17 seed. The other three Gamecocks participating in the tournament will play on Sunday in the Feed-In bracket.
After drawing a first-round bye, Koch wasting little time dispatching his first opponent of the weekend, Alex Sidney. The Irmo, S.C., native got on a roll early en route to his 6-2, 6-3 victory. He will face 17th-seeded Anthony Tsodikov on Monday in the third round.
Rising sophomore Chip Cox bowed out of the event, dropping his second-round singles match to top-seeded Jack Sock 6-3, 6-1. The tournament's 22nd seed, incoming freshman Andrew Adams suffered a late service break in his first set against Dennis Mkrtchian and could not recover in the second, falling 7-5, 6-2.
Play for Cox, Adams and incoming freshman Ben Barnette continues on Sunday in the Feed-In bracket. Cox will face Eric Rubin, while Adams will take on Kento Tanaka-Tamaki. Barnette's opponent has not been determined yet.
