COLUMBIA, S.C. -- No. 28 South Carolina men's tennis team moved up one spot in the ITA rankings after a 1-1 start to SEC play last weekend that included a 4-3 victory over No. 21 Georgia. Senior Gabriel Friedrich jumped up 37 spots to No. 29 in the singles rankings after taking down a pair of ITA top-25 singles opponents last weekend, while Friedrich and Yancy Dennis came in ranked No. 34 in the latest doubles rankings.

Friedrich took down Timo Stodder of Tennessee, the 25th-ranked singles player in the country at the time, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Friday night and followed up with a 7-5, 6-3 win over 11th-ranked Wayne Montgomery of Georgia.

Friedrich, previously ranked No. 66 in the ITA top-125, extended his current win streak to five consecutive singles matches including three straight matches against ranked opponents. Friedrich has won four of his last five matches in straight sets from the Gamecocks' No. 1 singles position is now 19-5 overall on the season.

After dropping their doubles match up on Friday night, Friedrich and Dennis, the Gamecocks' No. 1 doubles pair, came back with a 6-3 win over 12th-ranked Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski of Georgia.


Friedrich and Dennis have now won two ranked matches on the season and improved their doubles record to 6-2 overall. Their victory over Loeb and Zielinski clinched the doubles point against Georgia and jumpstarted the Gamecocks' 4-3 win over the Bulldogs.

South Carolina will embark on its first SEC road trip of the season this weekend as it takes on Auburn on Fri., Mar. 9, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a trip to battle Mississippi State on Sun., Mar. 11 at 2 p.m.
