CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - South Carolina men's tennis closed out its fall schedule Sunday at the ITA Carolina Regional as junior Ivan Machado fell in the Round of 16.

Advancing a round farther than he did in the event last season, Machado had stormed through his first two matches after drawing a first-round bye as the event's No. 14 seed. He faced his toughest opponent on Sunday in No. 36 Tripp Carleton of Wake Forest with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. Machado claimed the first set 6-3, but Carleton rallied to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to advance in the tournament.
