Men's Golf Announces Fall Schedule
Aug. 8, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina men's golf announced its fall schedule on Tuesday morning. The team will play in five events from September through November to kickoff the highly anticipated 2017-18 season.

The Gamecocks open the fall slate in head coach Bill McDonald's hometown of Dalton, Ga. at the Carpet Capital Collegiate (Sept. 8-10). Carolina will be making its 27th all-time appearance at The Farm. The long-running event will feature one of the best fields in college golf. Six SEC schools competed in the 14 team field last season.

Carolina will host the Camden Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 21-22) for the fourth consecutive season at the Camden Country Club. The team has won the event twice in its first three years of existence, setting the 18-hole program record for lowest team score with a second round score of 265 (-18) in 2015. The Gamecocks were runners-up last season.

The team concludes the fall with another trip to the Ka'Anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 3-5) in Lahaina, Hawaii. Carolina led the event after 18-holes last season and ended up finishing fifth in (840, -12) its first ever appearance in 2016. Seven top-40 teams made up the 24-team field, including NCAA Champion Oklahoma.

Two new events will be featured in the fall with The Jackrabbit (Oct. 1-3) in Valentine, Neb. and the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate (Oct. 16-17 ) in Indianapolis, Ind. Crooked Stick, one of the prominent courses designed by Pete Dye, has hosted two majors (1991 PGA Championship, 1993 U.S. Women's Open) and several other PGA events.

"I think we have a great fall schedule planned and I'm excited not only about the level of competition our guys will see, but the variety of golf courses and experiences should be outstanding as well," said McDonald. "Crooked Stick is an iconic and historical venue. Nebraska should be very interesting and a different style of golf for sure. And then Hawaii is well - it's Hawaii. Enough said."

Expectations are high for the Gamecocks in 2017-18 as the team returns all seven contributors from last year's NCAA Regional squad that finished No. 32 in the final Golfstat team rankings. Senior captain Keenan Huskey, a Golfweek Honorable Mention All-America selection, headlines that group of returnees. Junior Scott Stevens is also back. Both he and Huskey were Second Team All-SEC selections and PING All-Southeast Region picks after recording two of the lowest single-season scoring averages in school history.
