Dietrich named to SEC Community Service Team
May 10, 2018

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Redshirt senior men's golfer Ben Dietrich was named to the 2018 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced this afternoon. It marks the fourth time in his career he's been selected as a distinguished member of the 14-man team.

He led Carolina with 105 service hours during the 2017-18 academic year. The Bluffton, S.C., native went on a mission trip to Wales and hosted a golf tournament that helped raise $26,000 for charity.

Alongside the women's team in the fall, Dietrich helped build and assemble 250 bikes at Woodcreek Country Club as a part of the Toys for Tots program. He also volunteered at a charity dodgeball tournament and with yard cleanup efforts alongside his local church. He's been a standout student for Carolina, earning a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll every semester. He is set to graduate this weekend with a degree in hospitality management.

Dietrich will be making his second career postseason appearance for the Gamecocks next week as the team competes in the NCAA Bryan Regional (May 14-16). It marks the 11th NCAA Regional appearance in the last 12 seasons for Carolina under the direction of head coach Bill McDonald. The Gamecocks will be seeking a top-five finish, which will punch the team's ticket to the NCAA Championship (May 25-30) at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.
