DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. - Sophomore Dykes Harbin led the way for South Carolina's individuals competing in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate on Monday, posting rounds of 76-77=153 (+9) to tie for 11th place through 36 holes. The tournament is being contested at the Rees Jones Signature Course at Haig Point Golf Club.
Harbin, a native of Augusta, Ga., was tied for ninth place after an opening 76. He was only one shot worse in his second round and dropped two spots, but is within easy striking distance of a potential top-10 finish. Fellow sophomore Michael Raines, competing in his first tournament as a Gamecock, is two shots back of Harbin in a tie for 20th place. Raines shot rounds of 81-74=155 (+11) and is tied with two other players.
Senior Chase Liebler followed up an opening 78 with a second-round 82 to post a 160 (+16) on the opening day, finding himself in 35th place. Sophomore Clint Tolleson struggled to an 87 in his opening round, but recovered with a 10-shot improvement to a 77 in the second round.
Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State leads the individual race after rounds of 70-73=143 (-1), the only player below par through two rounds. Wofford's Chandler Brazeal is a shot back of Nagy after a 75-69=144 (E). Kennesaw State leads the team competition; however, the Gamecocks are not competing as a team in this event.
The players will finish the two-day event with 18 holes on Tuesday. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m.; live Golfstat scoring is not available for this event.
