Moore Leads Gamecocks in Opening Round of Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. -- South Carolina sophomore Caulder Moore carded a 2-under-par 70 on Friday and is in a tie for fourth as he led the Gamecocks in the opening round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club. As a team, South Carolina shot 295 (+7) and is in ninth place.
Moore's round was one of only 13 under par on the day. The Gamecocks started on hole No. 10, and Moore made consecutive pars before recording his first birdie of the day on the par-5 12th. The Isle of Palms, S.C., native gave a shot back with a bogey at No. 14. After two more pars, Moore birdied No. 17 and bogeyed the 18th to make the turn at even par. He made his third bogey of the round on No. 4 to move above par for the first time but he caught fire down the stretch, making birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 9 to wrap up his day at 2-under.
Junior Dykes Harbin posted a 73 (+1) to finish the round in a tie for 22nd. Harbin was 1-under though his first seven holes, but a double bogey at the 17th caused him to make the turn with a 37. After five straight pars begin the back nine, Harbin birdied No. 6 to move back to even but he bogeyed No. 8 as he finished his round at 1-over.
Sophomores Blaine Woodruff and Logan Harrell carded identical scores of 39-37=76 (+4) and are in a tie for 40th, while senior Wesley Bryan struggled to a 41 on the front nine on his way to a round of 78 (+6).
Tournament host Georgia Tech is in the lead after an opening-round 286 (-2), followed by Chattanooga (-1) and Clemson (-1). Chattanooga's Stephan Jaeger is atop the leaderboard with a 4-under 68, while Georgia Tech's Drew Czuchry and Georgia's Michael Cromie are in a tie for second after posting matching rounds of 69 (-3).
South Carolina's second-round tee times begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Gamecocks will be paired with Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee State for a second straight day. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
