Gamecocks Close Out Regular Season in Sixth at River Landing Intercollegiate

WALLACE, N.C. -- The South Carolina men's golf team shot rounds of even-par 288 in the final two rounds of the River Landing Intercollegiate on Saturday at River Landing Golf Club. The Gamecocks wrapped up the tournament in sixth place with a three-round score of 869 (+5). Freshman Caleb Sturgeon made a run up the leaderboard to lead Carolina as he fired rounds of 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) to finish in a tie for eighth with a score of 213 (-3). The finish is Sturgeon's third top-10 showing this season, all of which have been in the spring. Senior Wesley Bryan put together two solid rounds to close out the tournament, carding a 1-under 71 in the second round and a 1-over 73 in the final round. Bryan finished in a tie for 13th with a score of 215 (-1), giving him two straight top-20 finishes and 17 for his career. Junior Dykes Harbin finished just outside the top 20 in a tie for 25th with a score of 217 (+1). Harbin turned in rounds of 73 (+1) and 71 (-1) on Saturday. Freshman Will Murphy, who battled through day with a back injury, and freshman Sean Kelly each closed out the tournament with rounds of 76 (+4) and 73 (+1). Murphy tied for 48th with a score of 224 (+8), while Kelly tied for 53rd with a score of 225 (+9). Liberty pulled away to win the team title with a score of 846 (-18). North Carolina State and Duke tied for second with a total of 855 (-9), followed by East Carolina (859) and North Carolina (859). Duke's Brinson Paolini claimed medalist honors with a three-round score of 208 (-8). The Gamecocks will now begin preparations for the 2012 SEC Championship, which will be held on April 20-22 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. SOUTH CAROLINA RESULTS
